Summary
Villa Antica is a stunning stone villa that occupies what was once a fortified medieval hamlet. It faces the hill town of Todi, framed in the distance by a pair of oaks. The garden, with its picture postcard view of the town, is laced with the suggestive remnants of medieval walls and a tower where roses and clematis climb freely. The house was designed by a well-known Italian architect whose work in the area has been featured in the magazine AD and several other books. Villa Antica was lovingly restored and furnished by its current owners and has been published in several magazines. The house has an uncomplicated yet flexible layout hence it is perfect for two families and even additional overnight guests. It is also ideal for a romantic retreat. There are four marble-topped tables in the gardens, a fruit orchard and an herbal kitchen garden. Here, as everywhere in Italy, it is all about the pleasures of fine food and wine, which are meant to be savored and enjoyed: either under the kitchen pergola draped with flowering trumpet vines, poolside, or at one of two indoor tables. The outdoor barbeque is an open stone grill, Italian-style, with a ready supply of logs that can be used outdoors or to stoke one of the three indoor fireplaces or the cast iron stove.

SURROUNDINGS
You can visit the wine museum near the vineyards of Torgiano and buy hand painted ceramics at any number of shops in nearby Deruta. You can savor the celebrated red wines of Montefalco and buy the richly textured Umbrian traditional linens available at several shops in Todi itself.
For the more athletically inclined, jogging up and down the hills around Torregentile provides a most vigorous workout, that is, if doing laps in the pool isn't already enough; there are also two sets of public tennis courts nearby and a small stable only a few kilometers from Villanova. But for the best recreation of all visit the restaurants, pizzerias and gelaterias of Todi. They are wonderful enough to entice you back many times for the duration of your stay.
Villa Antica is near the tiny hamlet of Torregentile, just 7 km south of Todi in the Umbrian countryside. Pastimes are plentiful in and around Villa Antica itself. A cappuccino in one of the region's most beautiful piazzas in Todi is a most pleasant way to while away a summer afternoon. Note that from September 2008 the town's main piazzas are wifi hotspots.
